The Water Trust is excited to welcome Allen Asiimwe to its board of directors. Allen is the Executive Director of AVID Development, an advisory and consulting firm working with governments, the private sector, civil society and not-for-profit organizations and development partners in the African region to facilitate creative thinking and design innovative solutions aimed at promoting reform, growth, trade and development.
“I was inspired to join The Water Trust because of its people that have dedicated time and resources to serving rural communities in Uganda to access clean and safe water in a sustainable way,” said Allen.
Prior to AVID Development, Allen was Country Director Uganda and Regional Director of TradeMark East Africa, with operations in Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda. Allen also brings to The Water Trust significant experience and expertise in corporate social responsibility, leading initiatives to support nonprofits to work with orphan children as well as young mothers who have been the victims of sexual violence.
Allen also co-founded a global mentoring Initiative, Girls4Girls, that targets girls 15-25 years old and introduces leadership skills and concepts including negotiation, art of communication, and ethics in public service. More broadly, Allen is active in advocating for more progressive governance and gender practices in Uganda and the region.
“Allen’s extensive NGO experience and well-respected leadership is a great pairing to our Ugandan operations and local donor community there,” said board chair Paul Schrimpf.
“Allen’s rare combination of nonprofit and business savvy will be an immediate asset to our work in Uganda,” said Executive Director Chris Prottas. “Allen is our first board member based in Uganda, and she will play a critical role as we grow our partnerships with government and corporations.”
