The Lavorongur B well (also known as Nen Ku Tim) is a government deep well located in Lavorongur B village in Nyamahasa parish, Mutunda sub-county, Kiryandongo district. The borehole supplies water to 78 households (approximately 390 people) out of the 168 households in the village.
Lavorongur B village is located off the Kampala Gulu highway from Nanda Trading Centre approximately 32 kilometers from Bweyale Town Council. The village is composed of various ethnical tribes such as the Alur both from Uganda and Congo, Lugbar from West Nile, Acholi and Langi from Northern Uganda who migrated due to the Kony war conflict. They originally moved to the area as laborers in other people’s gardens as they were searching for where to settle their families. With the little income earned they procured land in this area and settled. The majority of people in this village are completely illiterate while others are semi illiterate and rely on farming to earn a living. The major cash crop grown is tobacco and maize while cassava is grown for subsistence use.
The government borehole had fallen into disrepair and the community turned to The Water Trust for support. The Water Trust helped the water users of this water point through rehabilitation of the water point in April 2019 as well as training a self-help group aimed at enhancing the operation and maintenance of the water point to avoid breakdowns in the future. While water users are brought together to save for the sustainability and functionality of the water point, the self-help group also gives them affordable finances with low interest rates that they use to enhance their economic base.
